Memorial
The First Unitarian Universalist Church of Essex County is planning to furnish a room in its Religious Education building as a memorial to Dr. Norbert Čapek, founder of the Unitarian congregation in Prague and originator of Flower Communion, and his wife Maja, also a Unitarian minister. |

The Čapeks were members of our church before they went to Prague. On display in the memorial room will be documents and artifacts relating to the lives of the Čapeks, pictures of Flower Communion services from around the world, and either the original or a smaller reproduction of a mural painted by Norman Millet Thomas
We invite all Unitarian Universalist societies to participate in the creation of this memorial. Please take photographs of your Flower Communions and send them to us. We would appreciate 4-inch-by-6-inch prints and negatives so we can enlarge selected pictures for display. We will return negatives if you send a self-addressed stamped envelope. (Alternatively, we would welcome your willingness to make enlargements yourselves.) With your pictures, please send the official name of your society and the date of its founding, and, if possible, a description of your Flower Communion service. If you wish to have the photographer credited in the display, please supply her or his name.
We welcome suggestions, donations of relevant documents and artifacts, as well as monetary
donations of any size to help defray the costs of the memorial. Please direct photos, donations,
inquiries, and suggestions to Paul Axel-Lute, Chair, Čapek Memorial Committee, First
U.U.Church, 35/47 Cleveland St., Orange, NJ 07050. (e-mail: axellute@newark.rutgers.edu )
(Please make any monetary donations payable to "First U.U. Church of Essex County")
